Why Montessori for English

Learning to read in another language is more natural when it starts with sounds.
In Montessori, the journey goes from sound to word, and from word to fluent reading, using hands-on materials that invite children to explore, create, and enjoy.

Montessori Reading Sequence

How They Learn

  • 1

Phonetic sounds of English letters: Presentations with objects, cards, and sandpaper letters to associate sound and symbol.

  • 2

Movable alphabet → first writing: Children build words before writing with a pencil—spelling emerges naturally from phonetic thinking.

  • 3

Phonetic reading: Starting with 3–5 letter words (CVC), then progressing to longer words, phrases, and sentences.

  • 4

English phonemes: Gradual introduction to combinations like ee, oo, ai (and others), preparing children to read phonetic books.

Structured Complement

Waseca Reading Program

We integrate the Waseca Reading Program to reinforce the phonetic pathway through:

  • 1

    Color-coded boxes (progressive levels)

  • 2

    Sound–word–image matching exercises

  • 3

Movable alphabet writing as a bridge to composition

  • 4

Worksheets for practicing writing and sight words (high-frequency words)

Result: the children build increasingly complex sentences that make sense.

What Your Child Will Achieve

  • Read phonetic words, phrases, and sentences at their level
  • Write using the movable alphabet and transition to paper writing
  • Incorporate common sight words and phonemes
  • Gain motivation and independence through hands-on, playful activities
  • Group Organization

    • Small groups of 5–6 children per guide to provide personalized attention, close observation, and adaptation to each child’s pace.
    • Grouping based on reading level and maturity (not just age) to ensure appropriate challenge and support.

    Complete Experience

Each month we explore fun themes (nature, art, science, cooking, etc.) through hands-on projects that expand vocabulary, conversation, and listening comprehension.
